Meet our Instructors

Al Seely

Al teaches Spin® at the Central Facility. His classes meet Thursday at 8:15 a.m., and Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.

Alan Wilson

Alan teaches Power Chi Yoga. He has been a certified instructor under Les Miles International for 14 years. Alan was born in Statesville, NC, and raised in Chattanooga, TN. Alan serves as a professor of Anatomy/Physiology and Microbiology at Darton State College. He is married to Al Seely, who is also a YMCA fitness instructor. They have two children and four grandchildren. In his free time, Alan enjoys gardening and taking care of his menagerie of pets which includes 3 dogs, 2 chickens, tropical fish, and finches.

Anita Maxfield

Anita teaches Spin® at the Lee Branch. Anita’s classes meet Monday and Wednesday at 6:10 p.m.

Carlos Johnson

Carlos is an instructor and Personal Trainer at the Central Facility. He teaches Sports Boot Camp on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. He also leads the 30-Minute Circuit Express Class on Monday and Wednesday from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m.

Chele LeVee

Chele is a married mom of two children, who is also an Army National Guard Soldier and a student, studying for an Associates in Sports Management at Darton College. She is a graduate of Lee County High School. Chele started her YMCA career in Member Services as a Front Desk Receptionist at the Lee Branch, and quickly took on many more roles including Fit Coach and Group Exercise instructor. She has been selected as a YMCA Employee of the Month and received our Spirit Award in 2015.

Chele leads 30 Minute Circuit Express and SilverSneaker®s Classic at the Lee Branch, and teaches R.I.P.P.L.E.D Water Aerobics at the Central Facility. Chele feels blessed to be a part of the YMCA family. Setting a goal in 2014 to become healthy and fit again, Chele has lost 45 lbs. over the last two years. She enjoys providing encouragement to our members who are on the same journey.

Chele enjoys being with her family, volunteering for community events, and participating in 5K charity runs.

Clint Newsome

Clint leads the Lunchtime Boot Camp class at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons.

Courtney Cann

Courtney teaches youth dance at the YMCA. The Youth Dance programs meets throughout the year with the exception of summer. Youth Dance is offered on Saturday mornings for ages 2-13.

Dan Gillan

Dan teaches Boot Camp and Specialty Classes at the Albany Area YMCA. Dan has served as President and CEO of the Albany Area YMCA since October 2013, but was introduced to the Y four years ago when he was hired as a part time Fitness Instructor. Dan is a Certified Personal Trainer, and also holds certifications in Kettlebell and Body Bar. Hailing from Chicago, Dan is a graduate of Purdue University, the Naval Postgraduate School, the Marine Corps Command Staff College, and the US Air Force Air War College. He served over 32 years on active duty as a US Marine and retired in 2009. Dan is married with children, and is very actively involved in many community organizations.

Dana Cimino

Dana leads the Balanced Body Class in the Leadership Room at the Central Facility. The class meets Monday and Wednesday at 10:15 a.m.

Dianne Davis

Dianne Davis has a BS in behavioral psychology from the University of Georgia and a MS in Industrial Psychology from Valdosta State University. She is a certified public manager who retired from state government in 2013. Dianne is a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Health Coach through the American Council on Exercise. She is an instructor for Jump Start, which is a resistance training program in the Genesis room at the Central Facility.

Donnette Kline Lewis

Donnette is the Director of Health and Wellness at the Albany Area YMCA. Donnette has an extensive Fitness background. She has served in Wellness roles at 3 different YMCAs in the past 21 years, and has been in Albany since 2005. Donnette has numerous certifications and has led almost every class taught at the Y. She eagerly shares her passion for wellness with our members and guests. Donnette loves the work she does for the Albany Area YMCA, which she considers a “very special place.”

Fran Bagley

At the Central Facility, Fran teaches Hatha Yoga Level 1 on Friday mornings at 8:30 a.m. and Pilates on Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. At the Lee Branch, Fran leads Belle Barre on Monday and Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and Pilates on Monday and Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. Fran and Donnette Kline Lewis lead the Saturday morning Belle Barre class at the Lee Branch at 9:30 a.m.

Julie Michas

Julie is a certified Personal Trainer who teaches the following group fitness classes at the YMCA: Basic Step, Step, Sculpt, Tabata Bootcamp (high intensity interval training), and Zumba. Julie has been a fitness instructor for over 25 years, 10 ½ years at the Albany Area YMCA. In addition to her Personal Training certification, Julie holds certifications in Group Fitness, Tabata Bootcamp and Zumba. Julie received a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Health Science Education, and a Master’s degree in Health Science Education from the University of Florida. Julie is married to Paul Michas and they have three children - Michael, Chris and Nick.

Mark Roberts

Mark Roberts is a Certified Personal Trainer with 20+ years of fitness experience with an emphasis on Wrestling, Boxing, Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts, Free Weights and Weight Machine training. Mark leads Kick Boxing conditioning upstairs in the Central Facility on Mondays at 4:30 p.m., and Boxing Conditioning on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Central Facility.

Melissa Martin

Melissa teaches Spin and Quick Spin/Plank’n at the Central Facility YMCA. She has been a fitness instructor for almost ten years. Melissa is certified through Madd Dogg Spinning. For her “real job,” Melissa serves as the Education Curator at the Flint RiverQuarium. A Gainesville, Georgia native, Melissa earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia in Forest Resources with a concentration in Wildlife Management. She has worked in the environmental education field for 15 years.

Roger Haggerty

Roger teaches Spin® at the Central Facility. His classes meet Thursday at 5:45 a.m. and Friday at 12 noon. On Fridays after Spin®, Roger leads a 10-minute Plank’N class in the Wellness Room across the hall from the Spin Room.

Sam McCormick

Sam serves as Senior Health and Wellness Associate at the Y. In addition to designing and implementing fitness programs and services at the Y, Sam also teaches a variety of group fitness classes at the Central Facility and Lee Branch, including Spin, SilverSneakers Classic, SilverSneakers Splash, R.I.P.P.L.E.D, Water Aerobics, Line Dancing and Interval Toning. Sam has 17 years of fitness experience, beginning her fitness career at Gold’s Gym in Albany in 1998. She is a Certified Personal Trainer as well as being certified as an instructor with many fitness organizations including SilverSneakers®, Madd Dogg Spinning® and Zumba®.

Samantha Helton

Samantha teaches Aqua Zumba, Water Aerobics and Chair Yoga at the YMCA. She has ten years of experience as a fitness instructor, earning a certification in Group Fitness as well as Zumba® Basics 1 and 2, Zumba Gold®, Aqua Zumba®, Zumbatomic®, Zumba® Toning, and Zumba Sentao®. Samantha was born and raised in Leesburg, Georgia, and attended the Lee County school system throughout her K-12 education. Samantha graduated from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Dance. While at Valdosta State University, Samantha received training in many areas of dance, including Jazz, Tap, Ballet, and Modern. She also trained in Latin dance styles, dance pedagogy, kinesiology and choreography, and has produced several choreographic works for various organizations. Samantha is wife of Ashley and mom of Summer Rayne.

Terrie Alby

Terrie is the Chief Operating Officer at the Albany Area YMCA. Terrie has been involved in the fitness industry for 20 years. She holds a Masters in Human Performance and Health Promotion and a Masters in Human Nutrition. Originally from New Orleans, she has enjoyed being a part of our Albany community for nine years. Her background includes organizational operations, personal training, group fitness instruction, wellness education and coaching, church youth and young adult ministry, and she holds various certifications that promote healthy living. Additionally, Terrie has been a fitness enthusiast for many years, from walking to triathlon and marathon participation. In addition to serving in her COO role, Terrie teaches Spin and Water Aerobics at the Central Facility Y.

Vicky Leister

Vicky is a Zumba instructor at the Albany Area YMCA. She is certified as a group fitness instructor and is licensed to teach Zumba Basic 1, Zumba Basic 2, Zumba Gold, Zumba Gold Toning, Zumba Toning, Zumba Step, Zumba Sentao, Zumba in the Circuit, and Piyo. Vicky fell in love with Zumba when she trained in Mexico under Zumba creator Beto Perez. She knew immediately that she had found a workout that kept her motivated and happy. Vicky became a Certified Instructor in Mexico and moved to the US in 2007. Vicky encourages everyone to try Zumba and find out how much fun it can be.
