Meet the Staff

Maria Benham
Maria joined the DRHS as President/CEO in October 2013. She has an extensive non-profit background with more than 15 years professional experience in nonprofit administration, fundraising and service excellence.

Naomi Sprank, DVM
Dr. Naomi Sprank is the full-time on-site veterinarian for the DRHS. Dr. Sprank was the Kennel Manager prior to attending Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine. Previous experience enables her to understand "herd health" and how things are different in a shelter environment than in private practice. She works with full-time Veterinary Technicians.

Aimee Heinrich
Director of Operations
Aimee Heinrich, our Director of Operations, (pictured above with Dr. Sprank) has been with the DRHS since 2008, previously serving a variety of positions including veterinary technician. She has extensive knowledge of small animal care and shelter ope
rations. She adopted four dogs and a cat from the shelter. She also enjoys caring for her four horses.

Ann Lorenz
Development & Marketing Director

Ann returned to the DRHS in May of 2014 as Development & Marketing Director. She had previously worked at the DRHS for 7 1/2 years. She brings 16 years of experience in special event planning, publication design, promotions, annual fund development, and media relations. She has three dogs (two were adopted from the DRHS) and cockatiels.

Joyce Parsons
Human Resources & Administrative Manager

Joyce provides HR support for the DRHS. She helps establish protocol and procedures, manages general office operations and handles accounts payable. Joyce has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She is also a member of the National Society for Human Resources Management and remains active in the student chapter at UW-Platteville.

Lisa Kucharski
Humane Education Coordinator
Lisa Kucharski moved from Woodstock, Ill. to join the DRHS in December 2014 as our Humane Education Coordinator. Lisa brings lifelong experience with animals including horses, chickens, rabbits, dogs and cats. She brought her Australian Shepherd rescue, Dash, with her to Dubuque. As the education coordinator, she will be building relationships with the community, schools and youth organizations in the area.

Joseph Letriz
Volunteer Coordinator
Joseph is the part-time volunteer coordinator who joined the staff in November of 2014. After graduating from the University of Dubuque and applying his knowledge and expertise to other areas, Joseph came aboard to lead the volunteer program and help oversee the growth and development of all the volunteers in the program.
